Look thru the looking glass looking past
Passed the rabbit hole, eating carrot cake
Passed heaven by a mile
Away see why it need gate
24 karats when its real its fake
Passed a way but didn’t die today
Caught my reflection on the way up
Moving down see em flexing
No heaven for a gangster
Lift this life above shoulders get your weight up
Spiral through your section – bake ya cake up
Without fire in hell – not for borrow not for sell
Not for none or some to spare
Every man bring his own heat by the time he get here
So moving forward but can’t bring the future back
When today is your past move backwards to make tomorrow
Better than yesterday which is a mile the other way
The present – a gift – some fuel for your thoughts
Pennies for food – chew it over – gave it away
Cant afford what you haven’t bought
So I forsake my reflection and sought
To touch ground - your bank up face down
What was lost has now been found
Minds freed cant be bound
I Wants to want nothing and instead you frontin
Cynics know the press of everything
And the value of nothing
Tell em i’m coming
Back back
To you
To you
Back’s back to you.....
To you

Writer's Block (TIME)
He put the walls all around her
tried to make her climb
And when she got to the top
he left the ceiling for her to find
No lying - He offered a light
for her plight but he what he
asked for in exchange…
sparked her fury and her rage
She far from quit
Yet close to sane
alarm bells in her mind like shots from a gage
Things kept the same for too long
so she forced it to change...
Thought she’d quick to make haste
but she knew better how to wait
contemplate to make her break
Stole the clock off the wall
and held it ransom while she stalled
there’s a silence then a pause
Chaos
as the ground trembled and sprawled
Out to cover all the other rooms
that he thought
she knew not
was out there
There’s beams and
wood and
concrete
thickening the thin air
Just then it seemed clear:
outta the insanity and depression
She trapped the room that trapped her in a mansion she erect-ed
Repressed it...
but that only made her rise
Yeast in flour with the heat by the side
the baker bit his thumb at her
But she ain’t pay him no mind
They said that good ideas find
You if you sit and wait
I say you make ideas good
When you ready to break away
Break bread amongst the flock
Fly tonight til its light
And tomorrow we dock
Free from myself
So my me’s and I’s
leave only a T behind
Yes I got so much of it
I can afford to brag about time
Making something out of nothing
Jazzy be about her grind
tried to make her climb
And when she got to the top
he left the ceiling for her to find
No lying - He offered a light
for her plight but he what he
asked for in exchange…
sparked her fury and her rage
She far from quit

On Some Women
I am not like them
We will never be equal
I do not project my insecurities unto other people
Or validate myself with half truths and cheap men
Head up legs closed eyes open
I am better than them
Their success is their vengeance
But spite is the seed of their demise
I have been accused of being pretentious
Of which I have never denied
Because the truth remains
I am not like them
We have never been the same
We will never be equal
I do not project my insecurities unto other people
Or validate myself with half truths and cheap men
Head up legs closed eyes open
I am better than them
Their success is their vengeance
But spite is the seed of their demise
I have been accused of being pretentious
Of which I have never denied
Because the truth remains
I am not like them
We have never been the same
Progress is not bringing better women down with you
It is improving even when everyone’s standards are low
It is improving even when everyone’s standards are low
The World
The primacy of being last
affords me a distance in the present
that presents an intimacy with your past
Which has imaged the future In a thousand shards of glass
Reflecting back through the lenses
Deflected by smoke
Imaginings reflected in
mirror images of the opposite-ness that magnetizes us
Pragmatize the madness and watch
what’s passed between our exchanges burn
Smoke curling up above my shoulder
We have only what we’ve earned
So our hearts grow colder
Yet we won’t forsake what we’ve learned.
The weight
On either side of your nape
Heavy as a boulder – wait.
Let’s let the world turn tonight.
If you can’t rest it from your back and get Us back – relax.
Let what’s had, do have, and yet to get, transact
and react when the mourning comes.
Let’s let the world burn tonight
… there’s a heat from your gaze
when you see yourself in me
as I dare not be afraid
I love you. You spread your courage like a plague
And slay cowards with it at an inkling of their hesitation
It’s not ironic
Our closeness is bred through separation
They let idle hands wander the borders of Dorian’s portrait
Where you dare share light upon shadows
I reflect back like mirrored glass to expose it
Our lenses deflect the truth of the matter
Our minds happen to presuppose it
Let’s let the world be tonight
Neither of us can hold it
Fire swallows the void between us
So never mind the coldness
We have what we’ve earned
And no illusion can revoke it
If you
See me
Seeing myself
In you
Know that:
We have tonight
Come morning
the world gets you back.
Let’s leave this world tonight.
